Marital agreements include a prenuptial agreement upon which a marriage is entered into, a postnuptial agreement entered into after the couple is married, and marriage agreements resulting from the actions of couples under the common law (often called common law marriages).
The purpose of these agreements is to protect one’s assets and legal rights while also limiting the claim of a spouse.
